Grading

These levels have been created by our Shaolin Master to help structure your training journey with us and to give you a goal to work towards.

Levels 1, 2 and 3 are Beginner, levels 4, 5 and 6 are Intermediate and levels 7, 8 and 9 are for advanced practitioners. These levels are not compulsory and only those who wish to take the tests need to.

Beginner

Beginner

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for one minute.
  • Four basic kicks from waist up.
  • Demonstrate traditional basic punches.
  • Complete simple combinations.
  • Demonstrate front sweep and back sweep.
  • Understanding of the basic movements of short and long weapons.

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for three minutes.
  • Demonstrate kick sequences in the air.
  • Combinations of short and long weapons.
  • Shaolin traditional form of five steps.

Beginner

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for five minutes.
  • Four basic kicks to the shoulder level.
  • Demonstrate the butterfly kick and head flip.
  • Front flip with floor landing and kick up.
  • Self defense demonstration including body locks.
  • Demonstrate Shaolin basic sanda steps with punches and kicks.
  • Shaolin traditional form called Tongpe Fist
  • 24 Tai Chi fists and Ba Duan Jin Qi Gong form.

Intermediate

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for six minutes.
  • Hand chop to break wood.
  • Front handflip.
  • Tiger roll.
  • Hou Shui Bei.
  • Sanda refex pad.
  • Take down with lower body.
  • Shaolin Puti curved sword.
  • Shaolin Yin Shou staff.

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for seven minutes.
  • Four basic kicks to head level.
  • Single hand chop to break brick.
  • Cartwheel without arms.
  • Dragon kick up.
  • Shaolin traditional form Luo Han fist.

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for five minutes.
  • Break steel with head.
  • Break staff with both arms and legs.
  • Take down with upper body.
  • Shaolin Fu Mo straight sword.
  • Shaolin Bowang Spear.
  • Tai Chi 56.
  • Shaolin Qi Gong Yijinjing.

Advanced

Advanced

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for ten minutes.
  • Backflip with and without hands.
  • Sanda combinations with take down.
  • Demonstrate your chosen animal form.

Advanced

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for twelve minutes.
  • Shaolin drunken fist and staff.
  • Defense using weapons.

  • Hold the Shaolin Basic Mabu stance for fifteen minutes.
  • One-to-one fight.
  • One-to-two fight.
